Notice to St. Michael Parishioners
I’m writing to inform you of an incident involving access to information associated with the St. Michael parishioner and family membership lists. Earlier this week a parish staff member was victim to a phishing attack. The attacker posed as me and solicited a parishioner membership list. The staff member sent the parishioner and family member lists to the solicitor. Once the staff member realized that this was phishing, further communication ceased and the curial (Diocesan) Office of I.T. was notified.
The parishioner and family membership lists that were sent contained some of the following data:- First and last names
- Address
- Birthdate/Age
- Gender
- Family Role (Husband, wife, son, daughter, etc.)
- Email
- Phone number
While no financial information was sent out, due to the sensitive nature of the list, we are taking this incident very seriously.
I can assure you that necessary actions have been taken to further safeguard your information.
If you or your family receive any odd or soliciting calls, texts, emails, etc., know that neither I nor the parish staff would contact you directly in this manner. If you are unsure of the validity of a communication, please contact the source directly or reach out to the parish office.
The safety of our families is a top priority.
